A Covid Christmas

Enjoying Christmas Dinner

My Christmas present was the arrival of B for an extended visit over the summer months.

Bev spent two weeks in managed isolation which she says was a good experience despite having to be confined in one spot for two weeks.  The staff were helpful and friendly and all her wants were generally taken care of.  Bev arrived in Wellington on the 24th just in time for Christmas.  It was lovely seeing her again.  After dropping the car off at home we walked up to Kelburn Village for a coffee and then while Bev got pampered at the hairdressers I wandered home to bring up her bag.

We had a quiet Christmas, just the two of us sharing a fancy meal at Logan Brown.  A fine dining experience on Christmas Day was not to be missed.  The staff were great as was the food. The day was so nice we were able to walk to and from the restaurant.  It was quite a treat after what had been rather wet and cool weather.

However, this was not to last and the following day the weather deteriorated and became quite cool.  This state of affairs continued for about a week.

We went over to Martinborough for a night hoping for some warm weather but unfortunately it was quite cold.  However, we were able to go for a bike ride, a circuit that took in Te Muna Road.  Only 20 kilometres but it was a good workout and nice practice for the upcoming cycling we will be doing in the South Island.  My sister and brother-in-law had come over to have lunch with us at Moy House.  It was still cold and they had a fire on in the restaurant to keep us warm.  What a contrast to the warmth that usually characterises Martinborough at that time of the year.   The food was good but the prices were sky high making it a less than value for money proposition.

Before we left for Wellingtonwe were able to buy some tree ripened apricots. Very yummy they were.
