Queenstown – 22 January 2021

I dropped the car off at VW so that they could have a look at it.  The Service Manager again reiterated that they would not be doing anything with it immediately saying that it would be repaired sometime next week but that they would do the diagnosis later in the day. It was not the most service friendly response!

We decided to take the bus into Queenstown central.  The bus stop is not far away and buses go every fifteen minutes so they are incredibly convenient.  They even go out to Arrowtown so I can use my gold card.

It was quite a nice day and to compensate for the disappointment of not going to Clyde and then onto Ophir we decided to find Bespoke Café, one which had been recommended by my sister and which we had enjoyed previously.  We took a little while to find it but eventually we did.  We had a lovely lunch in what was a popular place.

Since we were in Queenstown we thought we might go up the gondola but when we saw the price we gasped and decided a couple of very good bottles of wine could be purchased for the cost of us going up the side of the hill. We had also both done it before.

Instead we explored the old cemetery and then Bev decided I needed to be humiliated on the mini golf course – putt putt golf. With some reluctance I agreed to some ritual humiliation but unbelievably  we both came out on the same rather inflated score.  Bev blamed it on the wind and sun.

The end of humiliation

I had been wondering what the outcome for the car might be and as I had not heard from the garage I thought I would call them.  Apparently they had just finished diagnosing it and the issue was a failed fuel injector. That would account for the car sounding like it was running on three cylinders.  Of course it was too late to get the parts to Queenstown from Auckland so it would be next Tuesday or Wednesday before they could complete the repairs.

At least there are worse places in the world to be stuck!
