Upper Moutere – 13 January 2021
After a light breakfast H took Bev and I for a walk into town (they are a ten minutes from Nelson Cathedral) so we could go to the mini Farmers Market. It was very nice, with a few local producers selling fruit, vegetables, berries, bread, olive oil and cheese. H then took us to her favourite coffee shop in an old grocers store that had been around since the 1800s.

I went to boarding school in Nelson so have some familiarity with the area but that was 50 years ago and while parts of the city are familiar, other parts were not areas I had visited. Where H and M live was one of them. It is an older part of the city and H said that there were Italian tomato growers some metres from their house that took up much of the area. I suspect they were there when I was at school given the age of the houses just north of H and M’s.
Early afternoon we headed off for our stay in Upper Moutere at a friend’s
house called The Kiln. I understand it
had been constructed using an old kiln as the basis. We had a lovely drive out there through the
rolling Moutere Hills. They are very dry so no doubt will welcome a bit of
rain. Upper Moutere Church
